FOXHILLFARM IRISHLAD, WILODGE CERBERUS, GORRYCAM HAZZARD, AND FENOMEN PROGENY FEATURE IN THE PRIZES

Pedigree Limousin cattle led the way at the 2017 summer ‘major’ shows.  Securing a number of breed and interbreed titles were cattle sired by bulls available on Semenstore.

Featuring heavily was the 42,000gns January 2016 born maiden heifer Foxhillfarm Mammamia shown through the summer by Mr & Mrs M Alford, Cullompton, Devon.    An embryo calf Mammamia is out of the noted 125,000gns Glenrock Illusion, jointly owned with the Swalesmoor herd.   By the 38,000gns Foxhillfarm Irishlad, she has a Beef Value of LM48, in the Top 1% of the breed.   At the Royal Highland Show, Ingliston this heifer lifted the Supreme Overall Limousin Championship before moving on to win the prestigious Individual Interbreed Championship and feature in the winning Interbreed Team of Four.  In awarding her the Individual Interbreed Championship the judge Mr Archie MacGregor, Allanfauld, gave praise to her width, length and locomotion, applauding her for her outstanding quality.

Moving on to the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate Foxhillfarm Mammamia won the Limousin Female Championship and Overall Reserve Supreme before picking up the Junior Interbreed Championship.  For good measure she went on to be included in the winning Limousin teams in both the Senior and Junior Interbreeds.  Also featuring in the Junior Interbreed team at the Great Yorkshire was another Foxhillfarm Irishlad daughter in the shape of Foxhillfarm Missworld.  This heifer had sold for 35,000gns at Carlisle in May.  Foxhillfarm Mammamia rounded of the summer ‘majors’ at the 2017 Royal Welsh Show, Builth Wells, where she was placed Junior Heifer Interbreed Champion and featured in the winning Females of the Future Interbreed Pair, and the Reserve Supreme in the Interbreed Team of Five.

The Female Champion in the Limousin judging at the Royal Welsh Show was Whinfellpark Lavender from Messrs Jenkinson, Penrith.  This April 2015 heifer is by the 26,000gns Gorrycam Hazzard and is out of the Lowerffryd Empire daughter Whinfellpark Holly. Lavender was also part of the Reserve Supreme Interbreed Team of Five in Wales, and part of the winning Interbreed Senior team at the Great Yorkshire Show.  In 2016 she was Junior Female Champion at the Royal Highland Show.

Messrs. Jenkinsons April 2011 born cow Whinfellpark Glittered won her class at the Great Yorkshire Show and featured in the winning Limousin team in the Senior Interbreed.  Glittered, by Wilodge Cerberus, was Supreme Champion Limousin at last year’s Royal Highland and was Reserve Overall Supreme at the 2016 National Limousin Show.

Jim Bloom & Sons, Driffield, East Yorkshire, took first place in the Royal Welsh Show’s Agri Lloyd Elite Junior Bull championship with his January 2016 born bull Scorboro Misterbig. To be eligible to compete bulls must have a Signet Beef Value greater than the breed average. Home bred, this bull is  by Fenomen and out of Scorboro Jig.  Fenomen was imported from France, where his figures placed him in the upper echelons of the breed, after winning at the 2014 National Show in Limoges. Interbreed Judge Mr Neil Barclay, Banchory commented that he selected the bull as Champion for his “impressive power, stature and style”.
