Goldies Comet son is Supreme Champion at Royal Highland 2011

The yearling bull Maraiscote Floyd, a Goldies Comet son, secured a memorable Limousin Supreme Overall Championship win for breeder Ian Nimmo of Bogside Farm, Newmains, Wishaw on the opening day of the 2011 Royal Highland Show at Ingliston, Edinburgh.  Under the eye of the breed judge William Cowx of the noted Hudscales Herd, Hesket New Market, Wigton the June 2010 born Maraiscote Floyd picked up the Junior Championship before moving onto the Male Championship and then going all the way to secure the day’s top honour.

For Ian Nimmo, this was a second Royal Highland Supreme Overall title in three years having won with Virginia Andy in 2009.  Remarkably this was also the third year in a row that the herd has won the Male Championship at the Royal Highland.  Last year Maraiscote Ember, also by Virginia Andy, picked up that title before going on to sell for 15,000gns at Carlisle in October.

Maraiscote Floyd is one of the herd’s first calves by Goldies Comet - the Wilodge Vantastic son who was purchased jointly by the Maraiscote and Calla herds for 23,000gns at the breed’s February 2009 Carlisle Sale.

The Overall Reserve Supreme Championship, along with the Female Championship went to Robert & Jean Graham, Airthrey Kerse Dairy Farm, Bridge of Allan, Stirling with their five-year-old cow Grahams Butterfly, by the Grahams’ prolific stock bull and multi-title winning Samy. No stranger to the Royal Highland Show ring, Grahams Butterfly had previously lifted the Overall Supreme award as a maiden heifer back in 2007.

Grahams Butterfly then went on to be a member of the winning Limousin Interbreed Team of Four competition held on the Saturday morning. Sustaining the Limousin breed’s remarkable run in this competition, the winning team comprised of the senior bull Grahams Bonzo from Ronald Dick; the five-year-old Grahams Butterfly from Mr & Mrs R & J Graham; and the heifers Whinfellpark Ena, a Goldies Terence daughter, from Harry Emslie; and Anside Electra from Mr & Mrs Stephen Irvine & Sons.
