Goldies Terence & Wilodge Cerberus breeding features at Red Ladies & Weaned Calf Sale

Animals sired by bulls available through the Semenstore topped both the Red Ladies Limousin Derby and Limousin Weaned Calf sales respectively held at Carlisle in December and featured in a number of the day’s leading prices.

The Goldies Terence sired Whinfellpark Ena, a March 2009 born heifer from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith, Cumbria made 14,000gns and led the trade at the Red Ladies Derby, the year’s premier Limousin female sale.

Earlier in the day the heifer had secured the pre-sale show Overall Supreme Championship from the judge Mr Brian Wills, Newhouse of Glamis, Forfar. By Goldies Terence, Whinfellpark Ena is out of the fifteen year old cow Ryedale Limelight. With a huge Beef Value of LM+52, Whinfellpark Ena was sold PD’d in calf to the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus, who is also available on Semenstore. Purchasing the Champion was Mr H Emslie for the Emslies pedigree herd at Kinknockie, Mintlaw, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.

Goldies Terence semen, consigned through Semenstore by breeder Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries, has also been sold to export markets including Australia, Czech Republic and Scandanavia. Terence is both easy calving (LM+5C) and has a Beef Value in the top 1% (LM+41) and has sired Champions at both Carlisle and Perth with sons selling to 20,000gns twice at auction and £26,000 privately.

A further heifer, Whinfellpark Edna, made 4,500gns for Messrs Jenkinson. Whinfellpark Edna is a daughter of Rafiot and out of Middledale Shirley. The red ticket-winning Edna was purchased with a Beef Value of LM+40 and was sold in calf to Wilodge Cerberus.

Dinmore Elvira from Paul Dawes, Kipperknowle Farm, Dinmore, Hereford went under the hammer for 4,000gns to DG Green & Sons, Lisburn, Co Antrim for their Derriaghy prefix. Elvira is by the prolific Wilodge Tonka and out of Dinmore Bereka, a Saunders Stallone daughter and was sold with a Beef Value of LM+33.

A strong day’s trading for the Whinfellpark Herd of Messrs Jenkinson was confirmed when the January 2010 born heifer calf, Whinfellpark Fanzine, led the Limousin Weaned Calf Sale at 9,000gns. January 2010 born, Whinfellpark Fanzine is by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus and is out of the Pablo-sired Whinfellpark Audrey. The top priced calf was purchased by Miss C Williams, T/S DA Williams, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal for the Wilodge pedigree herd.

The first calves offered at auction on the UK mainland sired by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus saw leading prices of 9,000gns and 5,500gns respectively. Whinfellpark Fanzine was sold with a Beef Value of LM+37 and had earlier stood Reserve Champion heifer calf under judge Brian Wills, Newhouse of Glamis, Forfar. The Champion heifer calf, also from Whinfellpark but this time in the shape of Whinfellpark Fairley, made 5,500gns to N&J Matthews, Pye Brook Farm, Sutton, Stanton Lacey, Ludlow. This was another with a strong Beef Value (LM+35) and was again by Wilodge Cerberus and out of a Rafiot daughter.

In October 2010, the noted LIMO Herd Dispersal Sale at Ballymena Market had featured the first calves sold at auction in the UK sired by Wilodge Cerberus. Making a mark, the top four priced females (9500, 9500, 7000 & 6000gns) were all sold with Wilodge Cerberus calves at foot.

Topping the bull trade in the Weaned Calf Sale was the 7,800gns paid for Barrons Fantastic from W Barron, Morrow Edge Farm, Burnhope, Co. Durham. Sired by Ampertaine Commander, Barrons Fantastic is out of the homebred Barrons Vixen, a Moero daughter. With a Beef Value of LM+30 he was purchased for the Culnagechan pedigree herd of Mr D Hume, Randalstown, Co Antrim.  Ampertaine Commander, a son of the 24,000gns Glenrock Ventura, has featured regularly in the Semenstore Best Sellers list.  He was Supreme Champion at the Carlisle May 2009 Limousin Sale where he was purchased by W Barron for 20,000gns.
