A further batch of semen from the Limousin bull Plumtree Fantastic has been released for sale. With almost 200 pedigree offspring registered to date, his most recent highlight in terms of progeny has been the 2014 Welsh Winter Fair Champion, the pedigree Limousin heifer Sarkley Ilomena, bred and exhibited by EH Pennie & Sons, Gwern-Yr-Ychain, Montgomery, Powys. Sarkley Ilomena went on to sell in the post-show auction for £5,100 to Judge and butcher Jimmy Mulholland, Midtown Farm, Great Orton, Carlisle who described her as ‘full of meat, thick right through with tremendous hindquarters.’

Coming through from the pedigree Limousin classes to win the heifer section then the overall award at the Welsh Winter Fair was the May 2013-born 622kg Sarkley Ilomena who is sired by Plumtree Fantastic, a Wilodge Vantastic son. Purchased privately by Ian Handley, Gunnerfleet, for £40,000 from breeder Paul Cairns, Plumtree Fantastic is out of the Sympa daughter, Bankdale Amber, dam of the 35,000gns Plumtree Deus. Ian Handley describes Fantastic as ‘a long, clean bull with tremendous natural muscling and style plus excellent locomotion and temperament.”

In Ireland, too, Plumtree Fantastic is doing the business. His son, Mullary Intrepid, stood Junior Male Champion & Reserve Overall Male Champion at the Irish National Limousin Show held at Tullamore in August 2013.
