Swarland Eddie progeny do the double at 2013 Royal Ulster Show

Interbreed Pairs Champions Milbrook Gingerspice & Iveagh Gilkes

In an outstanding achievement, Milbrook Gingerspice, the January 2011-born in-calf heifer from Mr William Smith, Oldcastle, Co Meath was crowned Overall Individual Interbeed Supreme Champion for the second year running at the 2013 Royal Ulster Show. Gingerspice is by the one-time Semenstore bestseller, the prolific 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic. Gingerspice later teamed up with the Limousin Reserve Male Champion, Iveagh Gilkes, to take the Interbreed Pairs honours. Iveagh Gilkes is a Haltcliffe Underwriter son purchased for 21,000gns for Derek Hume’s Culnagechan Herd at Carlisle in October 2012.

Artnagullion Hannah - Junior Interbreed Champion

The Junior Supreme Individual Interbreed title followed hard on the heels of the Reserve Supreme Limousin Championship for the Virginia Andy daughter, Artnagullion Hanna, bred by William McAllister, Kells, Ballymena. On the opening day, Artnagullion Hanna had won the Junior Heifer title with the Ampertaine Commander-sired Trueman Hosanna from Henry Savage & Sons, Altnamackin, Newry, standing reserve.

Commercial Reserve Champion - Eddie Rocket

James Alexander's Jalex Team of commercial cattle were celebrating their most successful Balmoral to date scooping the Overall Supreme & Reserve Commercial Championships - both progeny of Swarland Eddie. The thirteen-month-old steer Steady Eddie was tapped out Male Champion by judge Hugh Dunlop, Ayrshire en route to the Overall title. The Female & Reserve Overall title went to their Limousin-sired heifer Eddie Rocket. Both of these head turners are sired by Swarland Eddie who is breeding exceptionally well on the Alexander farm and beyond. Swarland Eddie was purchased for 10,000gns at Carlisle in February 2011. Back in January, these two animals had secured a Championship One-Two in the crossbred section of the Northern Ireland Young Limousin Breeders’ Club Calf Spectacular held at Ballymena.
