Semenstore bulls prominent in Autumn 2011 sales

Carlisle sees 94 bulls sold to record a very strong average of £5,929

The Whinfellpark Herd of Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton, Penrith purchased the second leading price at 30,000gns in the shape of Maraiscote Floyd from Ian Nimmo, Wishaw, Lanark. A much-anticipated bull, Floyd won the Overall Championship at this year’s Royal Highland Show and is a son of the 23,000gns Goldies Comet (by Wilodge Vantastic).

The same vendor sold Maraiscote Fergus at the 11,000gns mark to the Clury prefix of WF Cruikshank & Sons, Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge, Grantown on Spey. May 2010 born, Fergus is sired by Virginia Andy and out of the Tydden Mei daughter, Maraiscote Unice, when carrying a Beef Value of LM+25.

The Junior and Overall Champion from Mr BT Goldie, Mouswald, Dumfries Goldies Fandango, realised 22,000gns when purchased jointly by the Tweeddale and Hollingreave Herds. This one is an embryo calf by the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic. Earlier in the sale the Goldies Herd had sold the red ticket-winning Goldies Fireball for 10,000gns to R & M Scott, Thirlwall Castle. Fireball is by the 24,000gns Ampertaine Bravo.

The Reserve Senior Champion, Whinfellpark Flamboyant, realised 12,000gns for Messrs Jenkinson,. February 2010 born, Flamboyant is by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus and is out of the Regal daughter, Whinfellpark Betty, and was sold to R Stevenson, Nunfield Farm, Cumwhitton.

Senior Champion Rathconville Flynn made the same money when heading to the pedigree and commercial herds of Mr & Mrs PA Kermode, Isle of Man. For Paul Brown, Rathconville Road, Loughgilly, Co Armagh, this outstripped his previous best for a Guards Boomer son.

At 10,000gns was Loosebeare Frosty on behalf of Messrs EW Quick & Sons, Devon. An AI son of Dinmore Bandit, a Wilodge Tonka son, he is out of the Rainbow Simon daughter, Loosebeare Crimrose. A Beef Value of LM+27 helped secure a final bid from T & J Leslie, Quoymorhouse, Shapinsay, Orkney.

Stirling realises £4,350 average for 54 bulls

Whinfellpark Firstchoice made the leading price of 9,200gns and followed hard on the heels of the pre-sale show Supreme Championship. Born in April 2010, Firstchoice is by Wilodge Cerberus and is out of the homebred cow Whinfellpark Vine, a Regal daughter.  As well as the breeding, the Whinfellpark bull carried excellent all-round performance figures including an overall Beef Value of LM+38 to convince purchaser Stuart Fotheringham who runs the Ballinloan herd of 100 pedigree cows at Dunkeld, Perth.

The Championship and sale top price marked an excellent three days for the Whinfellpark herd which was established in 2002 and now includes some 150 breeding females.  The Stirling and Carlisle sales saw the herd sell six bulls to average close on 5,000gns at Stirling with another average of 5,000gns for a further six bulls two days previously at Carlisle.  All twelve bulls sold, and twenty four in the year at Society sales, have been sired by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus, the Wildoge Tonka son, who was purchased for the herd in October 2008.

At 9,000gns was the Senior Champion, Beath Franco, from Mr J Thomson, Hilton of Beath, Fife.   January 2010 born, Beath Franco is by Goldies Crackerjack, a Goldies Terence son. Purchasing the Senior Champion was WS Paterson, Golland, Kinross.

Also at 9000gns was Spittalton Flame, a Hargill Blaze son, from J Burnett & Sons, Stirling.  The Burnetts had earlier sold Spittalton Frewster, again by Hargill Blaze, for 7500gns.    Hargill Blaze was purchased for 10,500gns at Carlisle in February 2008.  He is by the Mythe son, Marden Soroth, and out of a Haltcliffe Hercules granddaughter.

At 6,800gns was Ronick Flame from Mr R Dick, Stirling.  Ronick Flame is an AI calf by Ampertaine Bravo, and is out of the Bailea Olympia sired Ronick Ulema.
