Wilodge Vantastic dominates May bull trade

The former Semenstore best seller, Wilodge Vantastic, dominated the prices at the BLCS Collective Sales round during May 2011 with his sons securing many of the top prices and championships on offer.

Bankdale Exfactor from Gordon Wilson, Bankdale Farm, Wreay, Carlisle sold for 38,000gns and led a UK all-breeds record average trade at the BLCS May Show & Sale of bulls held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Saturday 7th May.

The November 2009 born Bankdale Exfactor is by the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the homebred Sympa daughter, Bankdale Alice.  Bankdale Alice is out of Princesse who also bred the 7,000gns Bankdale Amber who in turn produced the 35,000gns Plumtee Deus, sold at Carlisle in February last year.

Another strong offering of bulls from Northern Irish breeders was topped at 32,000gns by the September 2009 born bull Ampertaine Elgin from James McKay, Kilrea Road, Upperlands, Maghera, Co. Derry.  The 32,000gns price set a new record figure for a Northern Irish Limousin bull sold at auction and surpassed Mr McKay’s own previous top price of 29,000gns set for Ampertaine Abracadabra.

Two Vantastic sons from JD Rainey, Agivey Road, Kilrea, Co Derry went under the hammer for 24,000gns and 11,500gns respectively. Overall, Vantastic progeny won 6 of the 17 show classes as well as two section winners and the Overall Championship.

This sale represented the first time bull calves by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus had been offered at auction from the 150-strong Whinfellpark herd of Messrs A Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith, Cumbria.  Purchasing the first prize-winning Whinfellpark Fizzle (LM+44) at 9,200gns were DT Gardner & Sons, Lupus Farm, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire. They also secured the Reserve Junior Male title for the 8,500gns Whinfellpark Festive (LM+42) when snapped up by Tottingworth Farms Ltd, Little Tottingworth Farm, Broad Oak, Heathfield, East Sussex. Messrs Hughes & Co who run the Medrad herd at Ystrad Fawr, Llangwm, Corwen, Clwyd then purchased a third Wilodge Cerberus son, Whinfellpark Fever, for 7,200gns.

Later in the month at Ballymena Mart, N Ireland Messrs L & R Allison, Seacoast Road, Limavady secured the 5,800gns top price and Reserve Overall Championship for their December 2009 born Limousin bull Scotchtown Express. Encompassing style and power with a Beef Value of LM+43, he is another AI son of the prolific 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic.
